Dating: What It Really Means (What It Means to ‘Date’)

Dating is fun…

…you get to meet someone new or you go out with someone you like, you have good times with them, and get what you set out to get – love, romance, relationship.

But what does it mean to ‘date’?

Or what does ‘dating’ really mean?

Clearly, it’s not about hooking up with someone.

What dating really means

Before you form a relationship with someone, you will want to know them, right?

Yes!

That’s where ‘dating’ comes in.

We date to find a partner.

Generally, we will date someone to make ourselves desirable and have them want to be in a relationship with us…

…but that’s not entirely what dating is.

We don’t ONLY date to make the other person want to be in a relationship with us…

…we date to primarily evaluate the other person’s suitability as a prospective partner in an intimate relationship.

We date to screen the person we want to be in a relationship with…

…to study them and find out who they are and what they are about, to see if they possess the qualities of someone we would want to be in a romantic relationship with, to find out if they will make a great partner in the long-term and wouldn’t be a nuisance or wouldn’t hurt us emotionally, to see if we are compatible and decide whether to take our companionship into the romantic arena and pursue a long-term romantic relationship.

So that’s what ‘dating’ means. [Read: ‘How to Date’]

We date to get to know someone really well to decide whether or not we want to pursue a romantic and sexual relationship with them.

What to do (and NOT to do) when dating someone

So even though you would want to date to have your prospect want to be in a relationship with you, your primary objective is to study them to find out who they are and what they are about.

Study them to find out if they possess the qualities of a person you will want to be in a romantic relationship with, and whether or not they will make a great lover and partner and wouldn’t be a nuisance or wouldn’t hurt you emotionally.

And you’re going to have to hold off intimacy until you can be certain they’re worth pursuing a romantic relationship with.

Dating and sex

dating

Dating should be devoid of sex…

…not until you can be certain that the person is someone you want to pursue a serious relationship with.

Sex is NOT a necessity during the dating period.

Here, you’re not in a relationship with the person yet… you’re just hanging out and getting to know each other to see if you’re compatible and if they will make a great partner before you take things further.

Plus, you don’t want to feel hurt when things don’t work out or feel used when it turns out the other person was only looking to take advantage of you. [Watch This Video: ‘Some People Don’t Really Want You for You’]

You do not want to have sex with every person you meet and date when especially you’re searching for the one you believe will make a great partner, someone you can bond with and forge a solid relationship with.

If you want to sleep with every person you meet and date, that’s your choice…

…but again, sex is NOT a necessity during the dating period.

So girls, don’t be pressured into sleeping with the like as proof of your love for them.

And guys, don’t let a pretty face and your desire for sex entangle you into a relationship you could regret later on.

Make efforts to prevent or protect yourself from getting sexually involved with the person you’re dating until you can be certain they’re the one. [Watch this video: ‘How You Know When You Found the One’]
